FOX 26 Houston joined us to cover the event, highlighting the growing need for diaper assistance across our community and the importance of ensuring families have access to the essentials their little ones need.
We are grateful to FOX 26 for helping bring awareness to diaper need in Greater Houston and shining a spotlight on the families, volunteers and community partners who make our work possible.

[Sally MacDonald, Fox 26]
Right now. Well, happening today, the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank is giving away diapers to hundreds of families, deserving families. So I want to bring in Nate Griffin.
I love that we sent Nate to Diaper Day. Nate, look at that look you just gave me. You're a dad.
I bet you never hesitated to jump in and change a diaper back in the day.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
No, I did. A little uncomfortable, but no, I did not have to change it. I didn't hesitate.
And I think a lot of the people who are in the lines right now, they're not hesitating to do it either. And so it's just good to see a lot of moms, dads out right now. We're going to go to Morgan.
Hello. How are you?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Hi, good. How are you?
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
Tell us about this particular program you have going here.
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
So the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank is a program of the Naturalena Foundation. We provide diapers, wipes, period products, adult and continence supplies to families here in Houston.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
OK, so this program benefits how many people, would you say?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Minimum 300 families a month, and it's increasing every month.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
So you only do this once a month. Is that correct? Or is this once a year, once every six months?
How often?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Once a month at the moment. We are hoping with more donations, more support from the community, then we can increase these events. But once a month at the moment.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
Have you seen an outpouring from the community on both ends in terms of being able to get the diapers as well as to be able to give the diapers?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Absolutely, yeah. So all this product here that's been donated has mostly come from the community. So we're very community based.
All the community comes out to get diapers every month. And a lot of the community members are posting on Facebook, socials, getting the awareness out there. So the more awareness, the more products we get, the more people we can help.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
Let's kind of bring this home. About how much would a package of diapers cost today for a family?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
For one package of diapers, about $10, $15. It goes a long way. Families can use up to 100 diapers in a week easily.
So the costs really rack up. So us providing free diapers really helps out families, especially ones that are pinching pennies right now.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
I guess that depends on how many children you have in your family. Obviously, in some of these families have quite a few children, so you're absolutely right. In regards to how people can help if they want to help, what would you suggest?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
People can help by volunteering and helping with our events. They can provide in-kind donations. So we accept diapers, wipes, even open packets of diapers if your babies have grown out of them.
We accept those, and of course financial contributions as well, so we can purchase diapers and wipes to give out to families.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
Is this organization growing, would you say? Because lots of parents, lots of families need diapers.
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Absolutely. We are growing. We're seeing every month an increase in demand and also an increase in support as well.
So today we have three volunteers with us, and that's growing every month.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
Don't you need more volunteers than that?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Absolutely. The more, the better.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
If people want to volunteer, how can they get involved?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Absolutely. They just head to our website, LonestarDiaperBank.org. They can fill out our volunteer form, and we can let them know what events are coming up.
Honestly, the more support we have, the better. The more families we can help serve.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
I see lots of diapers here, lots of boxes with diapers. So where do these come from, and do you need more of those types of sources?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
Most of the product here has been from big corporate sponsors, so Baby 2 Baby, NBI Trading as well is a big supporter of us, and communities as well. The more diapers, the better. Newborn diapers, we're running quite low on those, as well as size 7.
So we're at two ends of the scale here, but baby wipes is actually the main thing that we need right now.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
Baby wipes. Okay, baby wipes is what you need. Okay, okay.
So that's a cry for help, guys. We need baby wipes here, in addition to the diapers, Sally, that they already have. They have plenty of diapers, seemingly, but you never know.
But they also need baby wipes. So there you have it, Sally. We're going to send it back to you.
[Sally MacDonald, Fox 26]
Okay. Nate, thank you so much. That was really good information for people, and it looks like they've got plenty of cover there.
So if people are in need, is it too late to come out here on West Fuquay, right near the Beltway?
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
From what I've seen, what, is it 10 to noon, or does it go longer than that?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
It can go longer. We basically are here as long as we need to be for people to come, but 10 to 12 is the general guideline. The more families we serve, the longer the hours will be.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
So, Sally, it's not over. If a family needs diapers, you need to get over here. And you're located where again?
[Morgan Forsyth, HLSDB]
5870 West Fuqua Street, Suite 300, Houston, Texas, 77085, next to Joe V's.
[Nate Griffin, Fox 26]
There you go.
[Sally MacDonald, Fox 26]
Awesome. All right, grab your umbrella and head on out. I think the rain is really refreshing.
Just got to get there safely. So glad to hear that there's still time for people who may be watching right now, and in that area of southwest Harris County, you know, really close to Missouri City. All right, thanks so much, Nate.
