Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank Supports a Record 253 Families at October Diaper Day — But We Need Your Help

Raising awareness about diaper need has never been more important. At our October Diaper Day, Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank (HLSDB) reached a new milestone, supporting 253 families in a single event. With Fox 26 Houston joining us to interview our team and help shine a light on the work we do, we have an important opportunity to bring greater awareness to diaper need across our community.

But behind every milestone is a growing need. As we continue supporting more families, we urgently need our community to step up, particularly when it comes to essential supplies like baby wipes.

A Record-Breaking Day for Houston Families

Despite the rain, families, volunteers and supporters came together for our biggest Diaper Day to date. In total, we supported 253 families and distributed thousands of essential hygiene products to help families care for their loved ones.

Our October event included:

  • 12,600 baby diapers

  • 931 training pants and pull-ups

  • 61,692 baby wipes

  • 1,539 period products

  • 923 personal care items

  • 102 bottles of shampoo and conditioner

  • 104 bubble baths and diaper creams

  • 4,818 adult diapers

These numbers represent more than products distributed. They represent families receiving essential supplies, parents getting support during difficult times, and individuals being able to maintain their dignity and personal hygiene.

We are incredibly proud of what our community accomplished together. However, the demand for essential products continues, and we cannot meet that demand without ongoing support.

Fox 26 Houston Helps Shine a Light on Diaper Need

We were grateful to welcome Fox 26 Houston to our October Diaper Day, where they interviewed our team about our work and the families we serve.

Media coverage is an important part of raising awareness. Many people don't realize that diapers, baby wipes and other basic hygiene products can be difficult for families to afford consistently. These essentials are not always covered by assistance programs, leaving families to make difficult choices between basic necessities.

By sharing the stories behind diaper need, we hope to encourage more people to understand the challenges families face and discover how they can help.

Awareness is the first step, but turning that awareness into action is what creates lasting impact.

Baby Wipes Are in Critical Need

One of our most pressing needs right now is baby wipes.

At our October Diaper Day alone, we distributed 61,692 baby wipes. That is an enormous quantity, but it reflects the scale of need within our community. Baby wipes are an everyday essential for keeping babies clean and comfortable, and families rely on them throughout the day.

When household budgets are stretched, even seemingly small purchases can become difficult to manage. For families already struggling to afford diapers, the additional cost of wipes and other hygiene essentials can place further pressure on already limited resources.

We need help keeping these products available for the families who depend on us.

Whether you are an individual who can make a small donation, a business looking for a meaningful way to support the community, or an organization interested in hosting a product drive, your contribution can help us get essential supplies into the hands of families who need them.

Financial donations are particularly valuable because they allow us to purchase the products most urgently needed at any given time, including baby wipes, and prepare for upcoming distribution events.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Our October Diaper Day was also a beautiful reminder of what community support looks like in practice.

A special thank you to Sherry and Elizabeth, who generously donated food supplies that we were able to share with families waiting in line. Despite the rainy conditions, their kindness helped make the day a little easier for those who attended.

We are also deeply grateful to our incredible volunteers — Amy, Ana and Angie — whose dedication helped make this record-breaking event possible.

And to every family who waited patiently in the rain while we trialed our new check-in system, thank you for your understanding as we work to improve the process and serve more families efficiently.

Every volunteer, donor, partner and supporter plays a role in making this work possible. HLSDB is built on the belief that neighbors can help neighbors, and this event demonstrated just how powerful that spirit can be.

Help Us Reach 350 Families in November

Our work doesn't stop here.

Our next Diaper Day is scheduled for November 17, 2026, when we aim to serve 350 families. This event will focus on diapers only, and tickets will become available on November 10 at 1:00 PM.

To reach this goal, we need continued community support to help us purchase the products required for our essential baby kits and keep up with the demand for our services.

There are several ways you can help:

  • Make a donation. Every contribution helps us purchase essential supplies for families in need.

  • Donate products. Baby wipes and other hygiene essentials are particularly important to our current needs.

  • Organize a collection drive. Invite your workplace, school, community group or organization to collect essential products.

  • Spread the word. Share our mission, tell others about diaper need in Houston, and help more people discover how they can make a difference.

Help Us Put Essentials Within Reach

Our record-breaking October Diaper Day showed what is possible when a community comes together. But with more families relying on our support, we need that generosity to continue.

Please help us raise awareness, collect essential supplies and fund our next distribution.

Together, we can help ensure that more families have access to the diapers, baby wipes and hygiene essentials they need.

Because no family should have to face the challenge of accessing basic essentials alone.
