August Diaper Day: Our Biggest Diaper Day Yet 🎉

August Diaper Day was a big one for the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and the patience of the families who joined us, we were able to distribute more products than ever before and serve more families in our community.

We prepared 300 baby kits and 45 adult kits, and ultimately distributed:

191 baby kits
13 adult kits
9,600 baby diapers
47,680 baby wipes
3,364 period care products, soaps, swaddles, burp cloths and PPE face masks
757 adult diapers
192 adult wipes
127 pairs of adult shoes

Every single item we distribute comes from donations. We don't have an unlimited warehouse of diapers that we can pull from when supplies run low. What we have available is what has been donated to us, which is why our ticket system is so important.

We also want to give a very special shout-out to Elisabeth and Sherry, who brought us an amazing selection of tropical fruit — pineapples, mandarins, peaches and grapes!

We shared the fruit with everyone waiting in line, and it was such a thoughtful surprise on a very hot Texas morning. Thank you for thinking of our families!

And to everyone who attended: thank you for your patience in the Texas heat. We know August in Houston is no joke, and we appreciate your understanding as our team worked to get everyone served.

Why Are There Three Different Diaper Ticket Types?

We know the three ticket types can sometimes be confusing, so we want to explain why we have them and why it's important to select the correct one.

Our diaper tickets are divided into:

👶 Baby Kit — baby diapers

🧓 Medium Adult Diapers — medium adult diapers

🧓 Large Adult Diapers — large adult diapers

The number of tickets available for each product is based directly on the physical inventory we have on hand.

We can only distribute what has been donated.

If we have 300 baby kits available, we can issue 300 baby kit tickets.

If we have 20 medium adult diaper kits available, we can issue 20 medium adult diaper tickets.

If we have 25 large adult diaper kits available, we can issue 25 large adult diaper tickets.

The exact number of tickets corresponds to the physical stock we have available.

This is why we don't have unlimited tickets or one generic "diaper" ticket. Our ticket system allows us to match the people coming to Diaper Day with the products we actually have available.

Please Don't Choose a Different Ticket Hoping to Get What You Need

This is especially important when tickets sell out.

If baby kit tickets are sold out, please do not select a medium or large adult diaper ticket hoping you can swap it for baby diapers when you arrive.

That's not how our distribution works.

Likewise, if medium adult diaper tickets are sold out, please don't select a large adult diaper ticket hoping to receive medium diapers — or vice versa.

We understand that this can be frustrating when the product you need is already gone. However, the tickets are specifically separated so that you don't arrive at Diaper Day expecting a product that we don't have available.

What happens if you claim the wrong ticket?

If you arrive with an adult diaper ticket but need baby diapers, for example, we cannot simply swap your ticket for a baby kit.

You'll be asked to return at 12:00 PM to see whether there are any unclaimed kits remaining. If there are unclaimed kits, they may be available at that time — but there is no guarantee.

And there's another important reason we ask you not to do this:

That ticket could have gone to another family who genuinely needed that specific product.

When someone claims a baby kit ticket intending to receive adult diapers, or claims an adult diaper ticket hoping to receive baby diapers, it means another family who needed that exact product may have missed the opportunity to receive it.

Our goal isn't to make the ticket system complicated. It's actually there to make Diaper Day fairer and more predictable for everyone.

Please Read Your Ticket Before Diaper Day

Before you head to Diaper Day, take a moment to look at your ticket and make sure you've selected the product you actually need.

Baby Kit ticket → Baby diapers

Medium Adult Diaper ticket → Medium adult diapers

Large Adult Diaper ticket → Large adult diapers

If the ticket you need is sold out, please don't claim a different ticket just to have something.

We would much rather have you know ahead of time that your requested product is unavailable than arrive expecting an exchange that we aren't able to provide.

We know there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to prepare for Diaper Day. Our team has to count, sort, assemble and prepare every kit based on the inventory available and the tickets claimed.

When everyone selects the correct ticket, arrives with the appropriate ticket, and understands that we can only distribute what has been donated, it helps the entire process run more smoothly — and helps us make sure our limited supplies reach the families who need them most.
