September Diaper Day: Powered by Community

September’s Diaper Day was another powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to support families in need.

For this month’s distribution, the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank prepared 300 baby kits and 45 adult incontinence kits, ready to provide essential supplies to families across Greater Houston.

On distribution day, 199 families arrived to collect supplies — and together, we distributed thousands of diapers, wipes, personal care products, food items, period products, and other essentials.

What Our Community Helped Provide

This month, our distribution included:

  • 9,200 baby diapers

  • 46,800 baby wipes

  • 900 toddler snacks

  • 150 tins of infant formula

  • 1,170 period products

  • 15 newborn swaddles

  • 399 baby and personal care items, including bubble bath, soap, shampoo, conditioner, baby powder and other essentials

  • 320 adult diapers

Behind every one of these numbers is a family.

A package of diapers can mean one less essential expense for a parent already trying to stretch a household budget. A tin of formula can help a family through a difficult week. Period products provide an essential item that is often overlooked when families are forced to prioritize food, housing, utilities, and other bills. Even something as simple as a snack or personal care item can make a meaningful difference.

We Could Not Do This Without You

The Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank is completely dependent on the generosity of our community to make distributions like this possible.

Every donation we receive becomes an opportunity to help a family.

When you donate diapers, wipes, period products, baby supplies, food, personal care products or financial support, you are helping us build the inventory that allows us to open our doors on Diaper Day and say, yes, we have something that can help.

And the need is significant.

We continue to receive thousands of requests for assistance from individual families, while also hearing from community organizations and nonprofit partners seeking essential supplies for the families they serve. The need does not stop between distribution days — which is why consistent community support is so important.

Our work is possible because people choose to give what they can.

Fresh Food for Families

We also want to extend a special thank you to Elisabeth and Sherry for their wonderful donation of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Their generous donation allowed us to share fresh produce with families waiting in line for distribution. Food insecurity and diaper need often go hand in hand, and having fresh food available alongside essential hygiene supplies is another way our community can support families with dignity and compassion.

Thank you, Elisabeth and Sherry, for thinking of our families and helping make September’s Diaper Day a little brighter. 💙

Volunteers Make a Difference

Diaper Day is also a huge logistical operation. Preparing kits, organizing supplies and moving hundreds of families through our distribution process requires many hands.

A massive thank you to Ana and her son for volunteering with us this month.

Their help made a real difference in keeping our line moving quickly and efficiently, helping families get through the process as smoothly as possible.

Volunteering isn't just about the hours someone spends at the warehouse. It directly impacts how many families we can serve and how efficiently we can get essential supplies from our shelves into the hands of people who need them.

Built by Community, for Community

The Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank was built on a simple idea: community should take care of community.

We don't do this work alone.

We rely on people who donate. We rely on people who volunteer. We rely on organizations that partner with us.We rely on people who collect supplies for us. And we rely on people who share our information so that families who need assistance can find us.

Every contribution matters.

Whether you donate one package of diapers, organize a community collection, make a financial donation, volunteer your time, or simply share one of our posts with someone who may be able to help — you are part of the work.

September’s numbers are a reflection of what happens when all of those contributions come together.

199 families served. Thousands of essential products distributed. One community making it possible.

Thank you to everyone who helped make September’s Diaper Day possible. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support and for everyone who continues to show up for Houston families.

October Baby Diaper Day

If you would like to support an upcoming distribution, there are many ways to help — from donating essential supplies and making a financial contribution to volunteering or simply spreading the word.

The Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank is built by community, for community.

And because of you, we can keep showing up for the families of Greater Houston. 💙
