The Environmental Cost of Diaper Insecurity

When families can’t afford enough diapers, they may resort to unsanitary practices—reusing disposable diapers, changing them infrequently, or using makeshift alternatives.

This isn't just a health issue; it's an environmental one. Inadequate diapering increases waste and introduces biohazards into the environment due to improper disposal.

The Environmental Protection Agency reports that disposable diapers make up over 3.5 million tons of landfill waste annually.

Improving access to clean, safe diapers can reduce environmental hazards and improve public sanitation—especially in areas without consistent trash collection services.
