On March 31, the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank hosted our latest Diaper Distribution Day—an effort that continues to grow each and every month as more families across our community seek support.
For this distribution, we prepared 300 essential care kits, each designed to provide immediate relief for families facing diaper need and related challenges. These kits are thoughtfully packed with a combination of baby care, hygiene, and essential health items—because we know that dignity starts with access to the basics.
What We Prepared for Our Community
If all 300 kits are distributed, here’s what goes out the door and into the hands of families:
7,500 diapers
79,800 wipes
3,634 period products
1,500 face masks
334 tins of infant formula
Each item represents more than just a number—it’s a necessity that many families are otherwise forced to go without.
Attendance and Ongoing Challenges
While we prepare for 300 families each month, we consistently see that only around 50% of registered recipients are able to attend and collect their kits.
This month, 138 families were able to make it to the distribution.
We want to be clear—this is not a lack of need. The demand for support continues to rise, and we regularly receive more than 1,000 requests for assistance. The gap between registrations and attendance highlights something deeper: access barriers.
From conversations with our community, we know that transportation is one of the biggest challenges. For many families, getting to our distribution location is not simple. Work schedules, childcare responsibilities, and limited access to reliable transport all play a role.
Why This Matters
Every uncollected kit is a missed opportunity to support a family in need.
At the same time, we know there are hundreds more families who would have benefited from those supplies if access were easier. Closing this gap is one of our biggest priorities moving forward.
Help Us Serve You Better
We are committed to making our distributions as accessible and effective as possible—but we can’t do that without hearing directly from the people we serve.
We’re asking our community:
Would different locations make it easier for you to attend?
Are there better days or times that would work with your schedule?
Would extended hours or alternative formats (such as drive-thru or pop-up distributions) help?
Your feedback will directly shape how we plan future events.
Thank You to Our Community
To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, or supported this distribution—thank you. Your involvement makes this work possible.
And to those who weren’t able to attend this time: we see you, we hear you, and we are actively working toward solutions that make our services more accessible for everyone.
Together, we can ensure that every kit prepared reaches a family who needs it.
